The Bismarck Civic Center is a busy place Basketball games fill the schedule the next two weeks When games are not going on it s conventions and other meetings that take up the space In this weeks special edition of Around Town Brad Feldman checks in on the status of a proposed hotel at the Civic Center Open The Bismarck Civic Center Advisory Committee is requesting information on the market - financial part of a hotel Today the group is meeting the new CEO of Canad Inn This is the company origianlly approved to work with the city on planning a hotel to go with the Civic Center Taras Sokolyk CEO Canad Inns we believe theres an emerging market there and weve always looked at Bismarck as a completely unique market to our canadian Canad Inn built the hotel on the Alerus Center Sokolyk says the Grand Forks Hotel is considered by Winnipeg City Leaders as the best travel destination He says on weekend about eighty percent of guests are canadians Taras Sokolyk CEO Canad Inns but were finding that were selling the rooms we thought we would sell were basically sold out weekends or in the 90-95 percent range and during the week we are at 55-60 percent Once the city gets the market and financial information in late June this group will decide what to do next If they should work with Canad Inn on developing a hotel or should the city do the project itself Transition You go to Menards to pick up the essentials for your weekend projects Soon you will be able to come into this hardware store and pick up groceries Just some of the items they will have are frozen pizzas milk snacks and other conveniece items Menards will expand its pet department to meet the growing demand for these items Taking You Around Town I m Brad Feldman If you have any business news you can call Brad at 355-9103
