Dakota Gasifications plant in Beulah has gotten international attention for doing what no other plant has done capture carbon dioxide Basin Electric CEO Ron Harper is part a group that s developing recommendations to get more plants to follow their lead Harper was in Calgary this week for a forum on carbon sequestration Basin s Dakota Gasification plant is the only plant in world to capture carbon The carbon is then piped to an oil field in Saskatchewan Harper says there are major concerns across the world on the changing climate caused by gas emissions from the use of fossil fuels Ron Harper CEO Basin Electric What we re doing here is dealing with a growing world economy that recognizes we need energy to continue the development of a growing economy But we have countries like India and China that are putting a power plant online about every other week with no emissions technologies being deployed so we need to find a way on an international perspective to move that ball forward Harper s group will make recommendations at the G8 Summit next year One of those recommendations is that between now and 2020 there needs to be 20 large scale commercial projects demonstrating how to capture and store carbon successfully
